CENH Fall Education Schedule, 2007
Register Here
The Central NH Chapter of APICS (CENH)
will have a generous offering of educational opportunities
starting the week of August 27, 2007. We will offer five CPIM
certification review courses, Basics of Supply Chain
Management (BSCM), Detail Scheduling and Planning (DS&P),
Master Planning of Resources (MRP), Execution and Control of
Operation (ECO), and Strategic Management of Resources (SMR).
Now we have something new, for the first time, we will offer a
14 week course that will review the body of knowledge (BOK)
included in the new APICS CSCP (Certified Supply Chain
Professional).
The CPIM exams will be administered on November 17, 2007. The
next scheduled test date for CSCP is December 8, 2007. Details
for these courses are below. We require a minimum of five (5)
students in each class. If there are enough people requiring
any of the courses, we will schedule the course. Please let us
know your needs so we can better support you.
At the end of this newsletter is information on the AMES
(Applied Manufacturing Education Series) program and the
Fundamentals of Materials and Operations Management program.
These programs both assume that the students have no subject
knowledge and teach the details of the APICS body of
knowledge.
|
As a general overview of CPIM certification, there are
five (5) separate modules, or tests, as follows:
Entry Module:
1.
Basics of Supply Chain Management (BSCM)
Business Process Modules:
2.
Master Planning of Resources (MPR)
3.
Detailed Scheduling and Planning (DS&P)
4.
Execution and Control of Operations (ECO)
Capstone Module:
5.
Strategic Management of Resources (SMR) |
It is recommended that they are taken
in the order listed, because they follow the supply chain or
business process. They can, however, be taken in any order, if
one doesn’t mind skipping the normal business process
approach.
The CPIM courses are designed to
provide an intense review of each body of knowledge with
classroom interaction. It is assumed that each attendee has
the basic knowledge and wants to review the content, in a
classroom environment, prior to the CPIM certification test.
At the end of this newsletter is
information on the AMES
(Applied Manufacturing Education Series) program and the
Fundamentals of Materials and
Operations Management
program. These programs both assume that the students have no
subject knowledge and teach the details of the APICS CPIM body
of knowledge.
The Significance of CPIM
Being Certified in Production and
Inventory Management (CPIM) means that the individual has
passed five examinations that cover the APICS, production,
inventory and supply chain management, body of knowledge (BOK).
This is perhaps the most widely sought-after industry
certification, with approximately 75,000 certified
professionals worldwide.
For the individual, the CPIM
program is a sell-assessment tool, to verify their
understanding of supply chain and operations management.
Today with the limited number of
job openings, being CPIM certified is highly regarded as a
“qualifier”.
Lack of certification will be a
disqualifier. As competitiveness drives decisions the need for
job-ready employees will become critical. Forward thinking
companies are already recognizing this and more will follow.
For the company, it validates the
individual’s understanding of supply chain and operations
management. Many companies are using APICS certification as
part of their Management-By-Objectives (MBO) programs. Some
positions within companies are only open to those with APICS
CPIM designation.
For the company using
certification as a prerequisite in filling positions, CPIM
certification helps narrow the number of resumes required to
be reviewed.
CPIM Review

CSCP
The Significance of CSCP
Successfully competing in today’s complex global marketplace
requires organizations to improve supply chain management
performance. As a result, well-trained, well-educated supply
chain professionals are playing an increasingly important role
in their organizations.
The APICS Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) program
will help individuals develop their supply chain leadership
skills to enable them to create and execute a supply chain
strategy that meets customer needs, reduces cost, and
increases profits. Individuals with the APICS CSCP designation
increase their value to employers who know that a well-run
supply chain is a key component of a forward-looking and
competitive enterprise.
Are you an operations or supply chain management professional
interested in increasing your knowledge of
supply chain design and strategy
demand management, planning, and logistics
technologies that enable the supply chain
global supply chain communications?
The APICS CSCP designation will enable you to learn
world-class supply chain management practices, improve your
company’s competitive position, and advance your career.
The APICS CSCP 14 week class is divided into four modules:
1.) Supply Chain Management Fundamentals
2.) Building Competitive Operations, Planning, and Logistics
3.) Managing Customer and Supplier Relationships
4.) Using Information Technology to Enable Supply Chain
Management
CSCP Testing
CSCP next test is scheduled for December 8, 2007 in various
locations in the country. Go to www.apics.org/certification/cscp
for eligibility requirements, test locations and cost of the
CSCP Learning System. Our course will be $1, 425 including all
courseware, which is $895 for APICS members.
AMES
& Fundamentals of Materials & Operations Management
In addition, the Central NH
Chapter can provide local companies with two different formats
of operations management resource education. Whereas the CPIM
certification review courses assumes that the material being
covered is already understood, the Applied Manufacturing
Education Series (AMES) and Fundamental of Materials and
Operations Management programs assumes nothing and teaches
(not reviews) the operations management principles. Both of
these programs cover the same material, only the format is
different.
The Applied Manufacturing
Education Series (AMES) contains six modules and is designed
to be delivered in a 2 and a half to 3 day workshop format.
This program is ideal for in-house education for a company
with a significant number (limit of 25) of people who need to
be brought up to speed on the principles of operations
management. The six modules are as follows; Master Planning,
Materials Requirements Planning, Inventory Management,
Capacity Requirements Planning, Production Activity Control,
and Just-in-Time.
The Fundamentals of Materials and
Operations Management program contains four (4) modules and is
designed for each module to be delivered in a classroom
setting, three hours per week for twelve (12) weeks. This
program would be ideal if there are a number of companies in
central NH who have only a few employees who need to be
brought up to speed on the principles of operations
management. The modules are as follows; Fundamentals of
Inventory Control, Fundamentals of Planning, Fundamentals of
Manufacturing Control, and Fundamentals of Operations
Management.
For more information on the AMES and Fundamentals of Materials
& Operations Management programs, contact Ed Goucher, VP
Education, at 603-524-4286 or egoucher@metrocast.net.
