An introduction to Lean
May 21, 2009
Applying lean Principles
in a Job Shop Environment
About The Workshop
This 8-hour workshop will review Lean Principals in an
interactive presentation and team activity format. These Lean
Principals are then applied by participants working in a live
factory simulation using low-volume/high-variety techniques.
About The Simulation
An initial factory production model is presented and
participants are challenged to improve the operation by
applying lean principals while working together, hands-on, in
their respective roles in the simulation. By changing the
model through application of lean principals, participants
reinforce the effect of the changes. Data is logged on the
effects of each round of lean changes to display cumulative
operational and financial improvements.
Take-Away Values
•
Understand how application of Lean Principals will reduce
product lead time and costs while increasing service and
quality.
• Understand why this is necessary in a global economy with
rising competition and increased customer expectations.
• Empowerment and confidence to think in Lean terms and be an
advocate for Lean improvements upon workshop completion.
