About The Seminar 4:00-5:15 PM

The Hillcrest Hotel
Tom was pleased to have landed a job during the deepest recession in recent times. He promised himself he would go the “extra mile” on this job, knowing that many people would gladly take his job and perhaps even for a lower salary. As the new Operations Manager for the Hillcrest Hotel in the Lakes Region, Tom is responsible for employee scheduling, housekeeping and maintenance of the units, and the efficient operation of the Hotel and restaurant.

During his interview with the owner of the hotel, the owner shared that the clients that fail to use their reservation cause idle rooms and loss of revenue. As the interview progressed, Tom realized that this issue was one of the challenges he must face soon after taking over the Operations Manager position.

Tom recalled that he had learned how to address this type of issue in the Service Operations Management course he took with APICS – The Operations Management Society. He is convinced that the main reason he was the one hired for this position was because he had recently completed this course with APICS.

After a few days on the job, the owner told Tom that last year there were 527 “no-show” clients, and that the no-shows were sprinkled throughout the year with about the same number each month. About the same number of “no-shows” had occurred in each of the last three years.
The owner of the Hotel was delighted - Tom’s solution was excellent and he added well over $25,000 of contribution to the Hotel. Tom was the only employee to ever have received a bonus at the end of only one year on the job.

The methods covered to solve this case have applications in many environments – hospitality, manufacturing, and transportation, to name only a few.

Executive S&OP: Roles and Responsibilities

This presentation will first give an overview of Executive Sales & Operations Planning and then delve into the various roles and responsibilities that make an implementation successful.

S&OP has evolved to become one of the most effective ways businesspeople can improve operations. By coordinating sales and marketing, operations, supply chain management, finance, and new product development, professionals reach all new levels. This session will explain the roles and responsibilities that make S&OP function properly, particularly those of top management. In addition, you will discover how to accurately evaluate ES&OP improvement opportunities and how to achieve them.

It is a condensed version of a presentation made recently at the APICS International Conference in Toronto.
